These things, the first day, are always look-around-the-room-to-confirm-that-you-have-not-floated-away-into-the-World-of-Freaks-ish. I did that many times today.
Introductions... Since I missed the majority of the introductions this morning, could everyone do me (and probably each other a favor) and blog your NAME, AGE, SCHOOL, ROLE, and any other info you'd like.
Thus, I begin. Brad Guidry, 18, rising college freshman, Friar Laurence/Abraham, i'm moving to France in two months to study fashion design. I am a returning STC'er from last year's Comedy of Errors production. I played Luciana.
You all seem pretty interesting to which you can bring an aspect to this piece. Ian was right, we do have a great ensemble.
Today's Exercise... Not as weird as I am sure they are to come. Straight-forward mind-body-soul collaboration/imagination thing. It was difficult for me to stay focused-- I had to imagine myself as a teeny-tiny me, crawling up my spine. It was a good thing that I aced AP Bio and have seen the Bodies Exhibit. I do not sleep very well, which affects my posture throughout the day. As we were sitting, all the fidgety noise that you heard came from my chair and I. I had a difficult time mastering engaging my muscles to sit up straight but simultaneously relaxing my muscles so that my skeleton held me up. I may have been doing it correctly and only thought otherwise because of a weak back. I dunno.
Today's Pedagogue... He breathes funnily. Maybe that is the correct way to breathe, but it sounds funny. Now for a positive note: He did have a point about the commonplace switching of pronouns. "You" for "I" Here is a trick.. use "one" for generality. "One does this.." "One feels that.." "When one loves so-and-so.." I wonder what he would say to that.
To whom it may concern (all, duh) and to whom are not aware... The Italian Run of a production is the completely comical, on-crack, fast-forwarded version of the actual production normally held the day or so before Opening Night, to help with fluidity of lines and to dispell nervousness. We run through the entire play with the EXACT same lines, but can choose ANY action, ANY costume, ANY prop, ANY mood, ANY objective, and ANY innuendo to which you conjure <-- my favorite.
