Uta Hagen

I sure hope I spelled that right. Oh well. Here are my character answers:

1) I am Lord Capulet, age 50. I am the patriarch of the Capulet house. I have a great deal of power in the family which means I am somewhat controlling and selfish. I am very used to getting what I want and I am also very good at it.

2) It is early summer when the story takes place. It is some time after the turn of the century. It is a time of unrest since two of the most renowned families in Verona are at war.

3) I am in the city of Verona, Italy. It is a dark, industrial city where street violence has grown so bad that those who disturb the peace could face execution. It is a city that is somewhat lacking in law and order.

4) I am surrounded by hatred. The lives of the Montagues and the Capulets are driven by their enmity for each other. But I am also surrounded by a certain level of comfort. The violence is not so bad that I cannot still hold parties and conduct my affairs within the family normally.

5) My family and I are part of the upper class. The Capulets are renowned throughout Verona and are also well-respected. There is a great deal of family loyalty from each of the family members as well as from the servants.

6) I am married to Lady Capulet although the love seems to have somewhat gone out of our relationship. Juliet is my daughter. I believe that I have her best interests at heart but we occasionally disagree on what they are. She frustrates me to the point that I can be very cruel to her. Paris is my good friend and I have a great deal of respect for him. I want him to marry Juliet because I think he will be a good influence on her. Lord Montague is my sworn enemy. I don't know why. It has simply been that way for as long as I can remember. No one really remembers how the feud got started. I respect the Prince as a governmental authority figure but I think he tends to get in the way of my business, namely settling our disputes.

7) I ultimately want to get rid of Juliet. I intend to do this by marrying her off to a man who I consider to be respectable.

8) Juliet's disobedience is preventing me from marrying her to Paris. She is constantly defying me by doing everything from ignoring Paris to simply refusing to be married.

9) I get Juliet to agree to marry Paris by threatening her. I tell her that I will disown her and throw her out of the house if she doesn't obey me.

10) I will know when I have gotten what I want when I can get an honest response from Juliet. I believe that eventually she will either see reason or be scared into compliance, either one is fine with me.
